VIDEO: Nurses, Caregivers Hold Candlelight Vigil For LICH

Supporters of the Cobble Hill hospital gathered in solidarity to fight for patients and employees.

 

Following state officials most recent , caregivers and other supporters staged a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening in a show of solidarity.

The gathering was far from solemn: nurses marched around the building, chanting that "LICH is open for care!" and cheering in response to the horns of ambulances and FDNY vehicles driving by along Hicks Street.

While SUNY trustees have voted to shutter the hospital in an attempt to repair the many financial pressures facing Downstate Medical Center—currently losing $12 million per month—the fate of LICH ultimately rests with the State Department of Health.

It is as yet unclear what the DOH's timeline for making that decision will be.
