Top Chef Contestants Moving Into One Brooklyn Bridge Park

Count this as another win for Brooklyn in the Manhattan v. Brooklyn real estate contest -- Top Chef contestants are coming to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Producers of the reality TV show have chosen One Brooklyn Bridge Park as the contestant residences for the eighth season.

"One Brooklyn Bridge Park was the ideal location for Top Chef," said Robert Levine, CEO of RAL Companies, the project's developer, in a statement, adding that Brooklyn would be a "nice escape" for the cast.

, said it was interesting that Top Chef was moving into the park, though he wasn't surprised.

"As soon as I heard the words 'world class' I got nervous," he said, referring to a term that has been used to describe the park. "It said to me 'this park is not for us.'"

One Brooklyn Bridge Park is a recently converted factory located near the base of Atlantic Avenue and is the only residential housing in Brooklyn Bridge Park, though that may change. More private housing is under discussion as a source of revenue for the maintenance of the park, something many in the community are against.

The penthouse, priced at $7.25 million, is the second most expensive apartment in Brooklyn, according to the statement.

At a  within Brooklyn Bridge Park, some in attendance worried that developing more luxury housing at the park would make the public space feel privatized.

Private housing will "feel like the backyard of wealthy Brooklynites," said at the meeting.

"My goal with Brooklyn Bridge Park has been to make your children the celebrities there," said Sloane. "As opposed to bringing the celebrities there." 

The eighth season of Top Chef debuted last night.
