Small Biz Owners To Red Hook, Dumbo: Help Is On The Way

Just as homes were savaged by the storm this week, businesses in nearby waterfront communities have also been severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Every day that shops, restaurants and production facilities in Dumbo and Red Hook are closed is another day those businesses are unable to make money, pay employees and bills.

In an effort to help get some of the most devastated establishments back on their feet, a number of small business owners in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill have banded together to form 'South Brooklyn Unites,' a collective which will donate proceeds from various points of sale to help do exactly that.

Beginning Saturday, November 3, participating businesses, including Arthur on Smith, Atmosphere, Bar Great Harry, By Brooklyn, Brooklyn Refinery, Brooklyn Social, Dear Fieldbinder, Henry Public, JakeWalk, Lunetta, Musician's General Store, Oaxaca, Rime, Shelsky's Smoked Fish, Smith & Vine, Stinky Bklyn, among many others, will begin contributing to the cause.

If you don't see a local favorite listed above, ask anyway. Many independent businesses in the area are supporting the overall recovery effort. This is one of many organized initiatives.
