Restaurant Blotter: Smith St. Soup Festival Returns This Weekend

Plus, Thanksgiving CSA; pre-order pies from 4&20 Blackbirds; and an amateur Apple Pie Bake-Off

Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill represent the crossroads of Brooklyn gastronomy. The blotter is our weekly roundup of restaurant happenings, events and deals.

Soup Fest. This Weekend. Get Your Slurp On

The Third Annual Smith Street Soup Festival arrives this weekend on Saturday, October 20. From 1 to 4 p.m. soup lovers can indulge in supping from multiple 4.oz-soup tastings presented by local restaurants from Dassara Ramen to Seersucker, Arthur on Smith and more [complete list here].

If you're thinking, "This is exactly the kind of quirkily delicous reason I moved to this neighborhood!" you're not alone. What we mean is, get there early! Tickets range from $5 for a 5 Tasting sampler, $10 Couples/Gourmets for 12 Tastings, and $20 for a Family-size 25 Tastings.

Apple Pie Bake-Off at Carroll Gardens Greenmarket

Swing by the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket demo tent on Sunday, October 21 at 11 a.m. to see which of your neighbors has what it takes to win over judges at the Apple Pie Bake-Off. Winners will snap up a *sweet tote bag. But really, it's all about the bragging rights, isn't it?

Speaking of Pies... 4&20 Is Already Accepting Orders for Thanksgiving

Visit the bakery's website to place orders. The early bird gets the Salted Honey, as they say.

Speaking of Thanksgiving... Local Roots Has a Turkey-Day Themed Pop-Up CSA!

If you love supporting local farmers and dropping phrases like "this turkey was raised humanely and the hot honey glaze, I roasted it in comes from just down the road in Greenpoint" the Local Roots Pop-Up Thanksgiving CSA is for you. As an added incentive, all orders will come with a *sweet tote bag (it's a trend!) with the Pop-Up Thanksgiving logo. Delivery will be made on Saturday, November 17 or Sunday, November 18 and pick ups are on Tuesday, November 20.
