Parolee Sentenced 70 Years For Attempted Murder, Assault On Officer
Robert Morales, 53, was convicted on Tuesday for attempting to shoot his Brooklyn parole officer in the face in April 2010.
A convict was sentenced to 70 years for a 2010 attempt to shoot his parole officer in the face, Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes today announced on Tuesday.
Robert Morales, 53, was sentenced before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Alan Marrus to the maximum sentence of 40 years to life for Attempted Aggravated Murder and 30 years for Aggravated Assault, to run concurrently, according to Hynes' statement.

Morales is no stranger to the cell. The criminal previously served 25 years for a 1977 arson that resulted in the murder of a child. But he was paroled in 2002, said cops.
After eight years without incident, in 2010 Morales received a new parole officer—Samuel Salters. According to multiple media reports at the time, Morales grew aggravated by Salters’ requests to meet twice per month, and not leave his home before 7 a.m., which allegedly made him late for his job.

On April 15, 2010, the convict walked into the parole office at 333 Schermerhorn Street, aimed a gun in Salters’ face and fired, but hit his shoulder instead, recounted Hynes in his report. Before Morales was able to fire again, the gun jammed and he was tackled by another officer.
Morales' only remorse was that he didn't succeed, he told reporters at the time: "Unfortunately he ain't dead. That was the plan."
