New York Cares Adds to Coat Drive Drop-off Points

New York Cares has expanded its list of coat drive drop-off locations and set a record-breaking goal of coats it plans to collect in order to meet the unprecedented need for warm outer ware this winter. 

The group started its 24th annual coat drive early this year to expedite aid to those affected by Hurricane Sandy as well as all New Yorkers in need, and has set a goal of collecting 200,000 coats this season, with an immediate goal of collecting 50,000 coats. 

Through Mon., Dec. 31, people can donate new or gently-used coats at almost 200 public sites around the city, as well as private sites hosted by individuals, corporations and civic groups. 

Coats can be brought to NYPD Precincts, certain public libraries and the New York Cares Warehouse, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. and located at 157 West 31st St. between 6th and 7th Avenues. 

Coats can also be brought to:

• The New York Cares office at 65 Broadway on weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Citi Pond at Bryant Park at 41 W. 40 St. between 5th and 6th Avenues Sunday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-12 a.m. 
• The LIRR concourse at Penn Station on weekdays from 7-9 a.m. 
• Atlantic Avenue, the Barclays Center Subway Station on the lower mezzanine near the 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains on weekdays from 7-9 a.m.
• The Jamaica Center Subway Station main entrance, weekdays from 7-9 a.m.
• The Grand Central Terminal at track 17, otherwise known as the Graybar Passage on weekdays from 7-9 a.m. in Decemeber only.

Individuals can also make financial donations in support of the Coat Drive and New York Cares’ Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
