LICH Activists, Local Electeds March Through Red Hook

Slideshow: Supporters turned out in droves on Sunday to participate in a healthcare rally coordinated by New York State Nurses Association in Brooklyn.

Local politicians including Councilmembers Brad Lander, Stephen Levin, Tish James, Sen. Daniel Squadron, Sal Albanese and others joined nurses, doctors, labor leaders and community members on Sunday for a rally and march to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH).

The march began in Coffey Park and ended at Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill, with many cheers of "Health care, not condos!" and "Save LICH, no more condos for the rich!" in between.

"Health care, not condos! Selling off LICH real estate to fund SUNY Downstate means Red Hook residents lose their emergency room. Not right,” tweeted Brad Lander from the scene.
