Keep the Money Flowing In!

Brooklyn Community Foundation offers another round of grants to our favorite borough.

Before this year comes to an end, Brooklyn Community Foundation is handing out big, fat checks to several organizations in the community. The foundation, which started in 2009, awards grants through five different funds: Education and Youth Achievement Fund, Community Development Fun, Caring Neighbors Fund, Green Communities Fund, and Arts for All Fund. In this round of grants, $668,000 was awarded to 37 organizations, bringing the foundation's grand giving total for 2011 to $4.5 million.

Here is a glance at some of the nearby organizations that have received grants from the foundation this December:

Cora Inc.'s Dance Classes

$7,500 was awarded to Cora Inc.'s dance classes for Pre-K through 12th graders, with costs based on what is affordable for each family. 

Rainforest Alliance

$20,000 will support environmental education programs through Rainforest Alliance.

Added Value

$35,000 will go to a green job training program for residents of Red Hook NYCHA Housing.

Mixteca Organization, Inc.

$15,000 goes to the Mixteca Organization, which works to improve and maintain educational programs for Mexican immigrants.

Transportation Assistance Program

$18,000 was awarded to Chai Lifeline's Transportation Assistance program, providing rides to and from medical appointments for children who are seriously ill.

Caring for the Future Project

$25,000 goes to Business Outreach Center Network, to assist women and immigrants starting or improving childcare businesses in the city. 

The Teen Advocate Program

$20,000 was awarded to Planned Parenthood of New York City for the Teen Advocate Program, offering Sexual and Reproductive Health education, as well as connecting teens to health care services.

Model SRO Project

$25,000 goes to Brooklyn Community Housing and Services, Inc. for the Model SRO Project, helping to prevent homelessness for ex-offenders and formerly homeless seniors.
