Five Things to Do This Week, April 8-12

A round up of great local events from Monday through Friday.

 

Monday 

Try something new to offset the Monday blues—like improv! The Irondale Ensemble is offering a host of free open sessions this Monday from 7-10 p.m. This is a no-risk, all-fun environment for everyone from the curious novice to the veteran performer. Don’t hide behind your sensible demeanour a minute longer!

Tuesday

Each Tuesday evening from 7-9:30 p.m., . Located at 513 Henry St. in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Farmacy serves old time soda fountain drinks including egg creams, sundaes and artisanal sodas in a restored 1920s pharmacy. The shop also features baked goods, soup and other savories. Plus, a grocery section with a 'Made in Brooklyn' focus.

Wednesday

City Stomp Live, one of Brooklyn's favorite family music bands, will play tonight at Dizzy's Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. The Brooklyn-based band performs many songs sung in the City Stomp early childhood music programs founded by Kevin MacCallum. Shows are comprised of fun, original songs about New York experiences from a child's perspective, cultural music—Latin, Caribbean, Irish—heard around the city; and the occasional rockin' versions of children's classic songs. Shows are free with a dinner reservation. Seatings are at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; shows are at 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. 230 5th Ave.

Thursday

Sign up for the Bed-Stuy Bounty Eat Local Share. Bed-Stuy Bounty is excited to work with Glebocki Farms again this year. John Glebocki is a fifth generation farmer in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County, NY. They grow a wide variety of vegetables and the Bounty will help to support a farmer who has had a longstanding relationship with Brooklyn. $20/week.

Friday 

Looking for a change of scenery for your child's education, or evaluating where you should send the kiddies once their of age to go to school? Brooklyn Dreams Charter School will be holding an open house from 6-7:30 p.m. at its 259 Parkville Ave. location. The event is free and open to the public.
