FASTrack Will Shut Down Sixth Ave. Lines On Late Nights Next Week

A new program to quickly repair subway tracks by closing them off completely for four nights will affect riders on the B, D, F and M lines.

Fastrack, the MTA’s new plan to shut down subway service entirely on some lines while repairs are being made, is back and will be making life harder for late-night commuters on the Sixth Avenue B, D, F and M lines beginning on Monday.

From Monday through Friday, between the hours of 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night, service on the B, D, F and M lines will be suspended between 57th Street and West 4th Street in Manhattan, in both directions.

According to the MTA:

- D trains will be rerouted and operate in two sections:

  • D trains will operate between 205th Street and 59th Street-Columbus Circle, then via the C line between 59th Street-Columbus Circle and West 4th Street, then via the F line between West 4th Street and 2nd Avenue, the last stop.
  • D trains will operate between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and 36th Street in Brooklyn, then via the R line between 36th Street and Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan, the last stop.

 - F trains operate via the E line between Roosevelt Avenue and West 4th Street in both directions.

- Manhattan-bound B and M service in Brooklyn and Queens ends at 9:30 p.m.  Service in Manhattan is available until 10 p.m.

- Free shuttle buses will provide connecting service between the Grand Street D station and both the Canal Street N, Q, R and 6 and Broadway-Lafayette D and F stations.

“During the , work crews from several disciplines were able to accomplish 425 separate tasks efficiently and safely,” NYC Transit President Thomas Prendergast said in a statement.  “We are learning from each FASTRACK operation, and we saw an increase in productivity over and above what we saw last month during the Lexington Ave FASTRACK. In four nights, we were able to accomplish what would normally have taken at least two months to complete.”

The next Fastrack overnight closure will be on the Eighth Avenue A, C and E lines from 59th Street-Columbus Circle to Jay Street-MetroTech for four consecutive nights beginning Monday, March 12.

Your story doesn't say anything about the weekend shutdown noted in the headline: "Fastrack Will Shut Down the BDFM Lines Overnight this Weekend." I think you mean "this (Coming) Week."

Hi Eric, Patch is aware of the error and we fixed it. FASTrack is only during the week so the correct headline is: "FASTrack Will Shut Down Sixth Ave. Lines On Late Nights Next Week". Thanks for looking out.
