Updated: Donation and Volunteer Opportunities for Sandy Relief

In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, many waterfront neighborhoods continue to struggle without power, heat and basic amenities. There are various ways to contribute this week. Here is the most current list of fundraising events, donation centers and volunteer opportunities.

Monday, November 5

The Bell House, the Moth is telling stories and contributing all donations to the American Red Cross.

Seersucker is selling mini pork sandwiches ($10 for four, to stay or carry out) with green tomato BBQ sauce. All proceeds will go to the Red Hook Initiative.

Tuesday, November 6

Tres Belle Spa invites neighbors to "please use us as a drop off again from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Needs: blankets, pet food, bread, batteries, coats, cans." All items will be brought to the Red Hook Initiative. All bags donated will receive a 20% VIP discount card usable on any future treatment.

The Cobble Hill Think Tank is also collecting bags of the same items, which will be brought to Red Hook Initiative.

Buschenschank is running a canned food drive.

Lobo is donating a portion of all proceeds for the day to relief efforts.

The Cookie Kids will be at Carroll Gardens Library, selling treats and raising funds that "will go directly and immediately to help local families affected by the storm's devastation."

420 Baltic St is in need of canned food for seniors. Those who want to help, go to the community center office for drop off/volunteer opportunities.

Wednesday, November 7

The Chocolate Room will donate the day's proceeds to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

Thursday, November 8

Buy a raffle ticket at By Brooklyn, proceeds will be donated to Red Hook Recovers.

Mr. Aaron, a member of the kindie-rock band Karen K & The Jitterbugs will be doing a live "Jitterbugs Jam" at 11:00 a.m. at the Brooklyn Farmacy, including 45 minutes of live music. "It's $10 cash to drop in and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Red Hook Initiative. The Farmacy folks are also contributing 10% of their proceeds that morning."

Friday, November 9

Local businesses all over Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill are raising money for small businesses in Red Hook and Dumbo. Visit your neighborhood shops to learn how you can help.

Saturday, November 10

If you haven't made a donation yet to Red Hook Initiative, Masbia, Red Cross or The Brooklyn Recovery Fund, the time is now.

Sunday, November 11

Hip Tot Music Fest Family Fundraiser for Red Hook Initiative Sandy Recovery with the Itty Biddies at Shapeshifter Lab. Tickets are on sale at http://hiptot.com/ $8 Kids, $12 Adults, non-walkers FREE, $35 Family Pass (online only). If you can't make it, you can purchase tickets for other families who can't afford tickets.

The Red Hook Star-Revue will be printing free classified ads through the end of the year for anyone wishing to donate to hurricane victims. Please send info to hurricane@redhookstar.com. A donation bin will also be set up outside their office daily, located at 101 Union Street between Van Brunt and Columbia Streets.
