Want to catch a yellow cab home to Brooklyn on a Saturday night? You may have more luck by promising a big tip, according to a new report by the Taxi and Limousine Commission, obtained by the New York Post.
According to the Post, eight of the 10 highest-tipping neighborhoods for Saturday night drop-offs are in Brooklyn.
“Nobody wants to take you to Brooklyn,” Kevin Kriebel, a Prospect Heights, resident told the Post, adding that he now says to cabbies, “I’ll take care of you,” hinting at a good tip.
Passengers taking a cab to Prospect Heights gave an average 21 percent tip for drivers on Saturday nights between 10 p.m. and midnight, the highest in the city for that time, says the paper. The Post adds that Park Slope residents tip a 19.9 percent average on Saturday nights, with Fort Greene residents tipping about 19.8 percent, and Carroll Gardens-Red Hook residents tipping an average 19.7 percent.
The TLC analyzed credit-card tip data by each neighborhood over a seven-day period in January, breaking down the data by average overall, rush hour and Saturday night tip percentages, says the article.
