5 Things: BAM Film Series and The Flea

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Check out a film series. Head to the Miyazaki film series at Brooklyn Academy of Music, running from April 5-14. Discover the magical characters and richly imagined worlds created by Hayao Miyazaki, the Oscar-winning master of Japanese animation. Bring the whole family to experience classics like My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away on the big screen. BAM Rose Cinemas at 30 Lafayette Ave. Children 12 & Under: $9, General Admission: $12.

2. Take advantage the (relatively) warm weather. ! More than 150 vendors will set up shop in Bishop Loughlin Memorial H.S.'s schoolyard this Saturday, April 6, marking the Fort Greene Flea's return to the neighborhood.

3. Start planning the kids' summer activities. The Park Slope Day Camp is a private summer and holiday camp with locations in the Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Carroll Gardens and Bay Ridge communities of Brooklyn. Campers enjoy the wide variety of activities our camps offer. The Camp will have an open house Saturday, and presentations will begin at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. 339 8th St. Free.

4. See how grandma used to do it. Forty-Seven Easy Poundcakes Like Grandma Used To Make is an installation of a series of forty-seven digital drawings by Brooklyn interdisciplinary artist Nyeema Morgan. The drawings are amalgamations of 47 variable "easy poundcake" recipes gathered from the results of online Google searches, and including the artist's grandmother's recipe. All forty-seven recipes were sequentially edited into one another with redirected word placement and negated superfluous text. The resulting forty-seven drawings are completely unique, despite identical procedures, and information. 1-3 p.m., BRIC at 33 Clinton St. Free.
