5 Things: A Special Easter Weekend Edition

Events, activities and important news to know around Brooklyn.

1. Safe surrender. Today, Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., clergy, pastors, lay members and defense attorneys will be available to help resolve outstanding summons warrants at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at 212 Tompkins Ave. While this isn't amnesty, favorable consideration will be given to those who participate. Contact Pastor Johnny Ray Youngblood at 718-388-3900 for more information.

2. Local traditions. Take in a Carroll Gardens tradition and observe the annual Sacred Hearts and St. Stephen Procession on Good Friday. The candlight march will begin in front of the church, with pallbearers carrying statues of Jesus Christ encased in glass and the Virgin Mary—under the title Our Lady of Sorrows—on their shoulders. Both have been used in the procession for more than 60 years. Attendants are allowed to take pictures as the procession passes but asked to remain respectful of the solemnity of the event.
