Proteus Gowanus is Mixing It Up This Saturday Night
Proteus Gowanus presents Nomad Mixer, which boasts a colorful line-up including literary gypsies, Russian folk songs, tarot card readers and the Union St. Preservation Society Band.
On Union Street, located at the edge of the Gowanus Canal, there’s an interdisciplinary gallery and reading room housed in a former 1900 box factory located centrally among several vibrant Brooklyn communities. There, exhibits of art, artifacts and books organized around a theme are exhibited at Proteus Gowanus.
The theme this year at Proteus Gowanus has been Migration, and visitors have enjoyed such programs and exhibits as learning about Siberian Shamans from anthropologist Thomas R. Miller, tours in Prospect Park to listen to the birds in utter silence, or perhaps visiting the intriguingly-named Morbid Anatomy Library.
Now, at the end of the year of Migration-themed exhibits and events, Proteus Gowanus presents Nomad Mixer, “an art-packed romp through our labyrinthine halls, alleyway and courtyard with music, food, drink, and exotic experiences around every bend.” The event boasts a colorful line-up including literary gypsies of the Poetry Brothel, Russian folk songs, tarot card readers, and the Union St. Preservation Society Band.

According to Executive Director Tammy Pittman, “This party is the culmination of fascinating year of art, performance and conversation about Migration; our artists, performers and supporters of all ages and background will make this party a real TRIP!” Well, you know where I’ll be this Saturday night!
