Brooklyn Crescents Lacrosse Club launches Fall 2013 Season

8 years.  It’s been eight years since six coaches sat in a diner in downtown Brooklyn and committed to continue the mission of bringing the sport of lacrosse to Brooklyn.  30 kids are now over 350.  Crescent players are excelling at high schools around the city as well as colleges and universities. Boys, girls, goalies and middies honoring the game and the team.

This Fall The Crescents begin a new season.  Three fields, a high school program and an expanded Pee Wee program are just some of the highlights of the Fall 2013 season.

The Crescents will be returning to their home field at Poly Prep Country Day School in Bay Ridge every Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for PreK – 8th Grade starting September 8 to November 24.  The Crescents will also have a second Pee Wee group on Sundays at McLaughlin Park in downtown Brooklyn on Tillary and Jay Street.  Free open play for high school will be held Saturdays at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The Crescents off of a stellar Spring season where the Girls and Boys reached new heights of excellence.  After years of building the girls program up from a handful of young ladies, the Crescents Girls of 2013 was one the most competitive programs in the Metropolitan Area.  They were undefeated in several tournaments, sent a new class of players to the city’s best high school programs and continued to have more on a Sunday than most people have all week.

The Boys program continued its development of young payers as well as fielding a truly competitive team with the older boys.  A range of players who had never picked up a stick before last Fall left the Spring with a winning record in tournaments from New Jersey to Westchester.

“The 2012 – 2013 was our best yet.  From expanding to Brooklyn Bridge Park to seeing the Crescents Girls become one of the best programs in the city this was a banner year.  We also saw our first crop of Pee Wee’s join the 7th and 8th grade Boys team and continue the winning ways of so many players before them.  Some of our first Crescents are graduating from college and returning to coach.  Others are headed to places like Hobart, Wesleyan and RPI.  We had 3 boys playing in the NYC Mayor’s Cup All-Star game.  We could not have been more proud.  As we launch the 2013-14 season we are ready to conquer new ground with our high school program and the expansion of the game throughout the 5 boroughs.”

-Dan Sheff, Board President

As Board President Dan Sheff alluded to as the Crescents program itself is flourishing they are setting their sites on helping launch other programs and forging relationships within the lacrosse community.  Trilogy Lacrosse, Encore Brand (founded by John Christmas), The Brooklyn Titans, Harrow, Xavier, Xaverian and Poly Prep Lacrosse are just some of the brands and programs that will make this season the best ever.  For all of Brooklyn.
