Sunny's Bar in Red Hook Aims for June Reopening

After suffering substantial damages during Hurricane Sandy last fall, a pillar of the Red Hook business community is hoping to reopen its doors this June.

Sunny's Bar plans to host a fundraiser on Wednesday, May 1 at The Bell House to kick off a month-long fundraising effort, according to a release.

"We have been working relentlessly after the flood to piece things back together," wrote owners. "There is new boiler, hot water-heater, new gas-line from the street, new electric service, new compressor, countless smaller repairs and incredible volunteer help. The Kickstarter campaign and other financial help paid for these expenses."

But there is still much more to be done.

Tickets to the "May Day Party for Sunny's" are $30 General Admission or $60 for VIP treatment. Entertainment will be provided by The Red Hook Ramblers, John Pinamonti, Li'l Mo and the Monicats, Kings' County Blues Band, Luna Sisters, Dave, Vic, & Friends, Simon Chardiet and The Woes.

Let's bring this longshoreman's haunt back to the waterfront.
