Shop Brooklyn Kicks Off Fourth Year

On Tuesday, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President Carlo Scissura launched the fourth annual “Shop Brooklyn,” a campaign to support locally owned businesses in the borough.

A special focus this year is on neighborhoods and businesses that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“No matter who you’re shopping for or what you’re looking for, Brooklyn retailers have it all wrapped up,” said Markowitz, in a statement. “Consider frequenting Brooklyn’s small businesses – particularly in communities hardest hit by Sandy – and giving back to those who need it most by making a contribution to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund.”

“For the borough’s coastal communities hit the hardest by the storm, I want everyone to especially encourage people to shop in those areas so that the local economy can get back on its feet,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carlo Scissura.

A complete list of participating businesses are listed here (alphabetically), but shoppers will also see a Shop Brooklyn decal in a store’s window or a placard near the register. Participating shops will offer a “Brooklyn Bonus,” or a special discount for supporting local businesses.
