Roogla Brings Coffee and Pastries 'With a Twist'

The new Boerum Hill coffee shop has opened in the Smith St. space formerly housing Ecopolis.

There's a new coffeehouse in the neighborhood, caffeine lovers. Roogla has opened in the Boerum Hill storefront formerly housing Ecopolis.

The airy, minimalist space, located at 180 Smith Street between Warren and Wyckoff streets, is a study in natural woods and shiny metallics with occasional pops of orange—as with an elevated couch located at the rear of the shop.

Serving Intelligentsia Coffee and Kilogram Tea, the shop's name is inspired by the traditional "twist" pastry known as rugelach—but with a little creative license when it comes to the spelling. A selection of the sweets, made by Laurentino's Bakery, are also for sale.

The most popular drink on the menu so far is the single origin iced coffee, according to shopkeepers.

"It's prepared hot and then poured over ice," said barista Fernando Soto. "It's delicious. But it takes a second or two to prepare. So if you're in a rush on your way to work, you may want to wake up a little earlier to order this one."
