Real Estate Roundup

The latest movings and shakings from around the neighborhood include the most expensive town house in Cobble Hill history

There’s No Place Like (a $5.95 million) Home

A townhouse proposed for the empty space at the corner of Strong Place and Kane Street could become the most expensive single-family dwelling in Cobble Hill. The building, designed by CWB Architects and marketed by Brennan Realty Services, is one of three townhouses to be built on that block starting in the spring. The largest of the three, coming in at 5,233 square feet, it is currently listed at $5.95 million—a local record for single-family homes. Curbed has the floor plans.

Whole Foods continues to face bureaucratic resistance in its quest to build an outlet along the Gowanus Canal. Last week, the postponed a vote on the food seller’s permit application. Yesterday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a hearing to discuss reducing the lot size of a landmarked building adjacent to the Whole Foods building site, reports Brownstoner. Critics of the build argue that the Coignet Stone Company Building on the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue should be allowed to keep its entire lot, which Whole Foods wants minimized. The LPC has not yet voted on the proposal.

Two large properties have changed hands in Boerum Hill, with development plans for each already in the works. Steiner Studios recently acquired a four-property package on Livingston and Schermerhorn Streets for a reported $30 million. Although Steiner’s spokesman said that it was “too soon” to speak about plans for the property, the most likely use is for residences or a hotel, reports The Brooklyn Eagle.

At the other end of the neighborhood, the corner building at 292-294 Atlantic Ave. and 93-101 Smith St. has been acquired by Joe Sitt of Thor Equities. The new owners are reportedly looking to develop the building as retail space.

Luquer Street High Rise On Sale

The big red apartment building on Luquer Street, sometimes known as the Carroll Gardens Finger, is up for sale again, reports Brownstoner. The building was recently re-furbished in anticipation of selling condo units, but the owners are now trying to unload the property by marketing it as a rental.
