Pre-Registration For Barclays Center Jobs Begins

Public housing residents, as well as those living in neighborhoods surrounding Atlantic Yards, are to be given preference.

Barclays Center unveiled a new jobs website this week amidst —of available employment opportunities at the site.

A representative of arena developer Forest City Ratner said that jobseekers would be able to pre-register for positions at brooklynbarclayscenterjobs.com in a hiring process expected to last two months.

Once screened, candidates will be asked back for an in-person interview at job fairs to be held in July and August. The first training sessions for new employees will take place in August, according to FCRC.

Despite an announcement made with great fanfare in April that at Barclays Center, FCRC execs later walked back that figure, saying that 1,240 full-time equivalent jobs would be made available—meaning that most positions at the mega-arena would be part-time.

At a Community Board 6 meeting, FCRC representatives whittled down that jobs number even further, confirming only at the arena.

In an email sent today, FCRC vice president for external affairs Ashley Cotton confirmed plans to give residents of New York City Housing Authority and Brooklyn Community Boards, 2, 3, 6 and 8 preference for jobs.

Graduates of , Brooklyn United For Innovative Local Development (BUILD), will also be given priority, Cotton wrote.

Hi I am very disappointed in Barclays center. I am unemployed and I have registered with BUILD since August of last year. They promise me a job and I have not been consisder or any interviews. This is not right, that people from the neighborhood can not even get a job. Is this the way we are treated? I have gone to the orientation and they have promise us position but as of now I have not receive any thing, There should be a class action suit for this.
