PJ Hanley's Tavern To Reopen?

Staffers next door say the oldest bar in Brooklyn won't be closed for long.

PJ Hanley's Tavern, which closed on March 17 due to financial issues, will reopen soon, according to staff.

An employee of South Brooklyn Pizza, which abuts the Carroll Gardens watering hole and is owned and operated by PJ Hanley's questionable proprietor James McGown, told Patch that the 139-year-old bar is undergoing renovations and will reopen soon.

"Once it reopens, we will be able to extend our hours [at South Brooklyn Pizza]," he said. The pizza parlor is currently open from 11 a.m. until midnight, and only offers takeout or delivery.

The windows of PJ Hanley's are currently covered in brown craft paper. No construction was heard or visible at the time of the interview.
