PetSmart Opens on Atlantic Ave

The retailer opened at 238 Atlantic Avenue, while a second location recently opened in Canarsie.

PetSmart opened it's doors at 238 Atlantic Avenue yesterday, with a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Brooklyn Borough Prez Marty Markowitz.

The location, along with a new store in Canarsie, marks the pet retailer's first foray into Brooklyn. Patch first in September, and locals, like Jason Hong of , immediately expressed their concern about the big-box competition.

"Distributors charge PetSmart less," Hong said, ackowledging that while PetSmart may have lower prices, his store still has a personal touch.

The new P with Brooklyn Animal Foster Network to find homes for homeless pets, and to provide funding for life-saving initiatives for furry friends.

"As the proud ‘father’ to a 10-year-old African Grey Parrot named Beep, I know the joy a pet can bring to your life, and that’s why we’re thrilled to have PetSmart and PetSmart Charities adoption centers in our Brooklyn neighborhoods to help create new families by helping pets find loving homes," said Markowitz at the event.
