New Baptist Church Not For Sale, Condos A Possibility

The New Baptist Temple Church will not be put up for sale, but will work with a developer on a possible conversion to residential and retail.

Earlier this month, Brownstoner reported that The New Baptist Temple Church, on Schermerhorn Street and Third Avenue, , but today the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the congregation would like to work with a developer on a mixed-use conversion, instead of selling the building.

According to the Journal, the church’s pastor would like to construct a residential addition, with possible retail opportunities, and to renovate the church, which was damaged by a fire last year.

TerraCRG Commercial Realty Group, which is involved with the marketing of the building, believes high-end rentals and condos will do well in the area, given the proximity to Brooklyn Academy of Museum and the Atlantic Center, according to the report.
