Green Friday at Film Biz Recycling

Need a unique gift? The Gowanus film set prop shop is featuring a half-off sale this weekend.

If you’d rather not spend the day after Thanksgiving lined up outside of a big box store at 4 a.m. to score some cheap electronics, you’re not alone. , in Gowanus, wants to change Black Friday to Green Friday, promoting sustainable re-use and boasting one-of-kind gifts (trophies, skeletons, breakaway glass!) during their weekend sale.

The cavernous President Street store, which sells old furniture and props from movie, TV and commercials that have filmed in the city, is offering half-off on everything Friday through Sunday.

Proprietor Eva Radke, a former Art Director for commercials, scoops up discarded set pieces, like mid-century chairs and tea sets, and sells them to the public at a discount. FBR has partnered with local organizations, sharing about 60% of their donated materials with groups like shelter in Park Slope, Sean Casey Animal Rescue, and the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.

The shop is located at 540 President Street, and their weekend holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
