Cobble Hill Couple Launches New Board Game

First board game launched by Court Street couple.

Back in 2010, Creative Cobble Hill couple Sara Farber and Bryan Wilson decided to put their expertise and background together to launch a toy and game company.

Farber was a 15-year content developer for kids’ toys and games, while Wilson has created TV commercials, print ads and social media campaigns for M&Ms, Duncan Hines, AT&T and many other household names.

Now in 2013, their company Galactic Sneeze officially debuted their first game, 'Schmovie'. The movie-themed game is designed for players 13 and over and has already garnered a cult-like following on its play-along Facebook page, where close to 9,000 fans have submitted over 30,000 Schmovie titles.

“Our goal is to make Schmovie the name brand for all things related to movie parodies,” Farber said. “Unlike other film-themed games, ours is not trivia-based, which gives it a broader appeal and a unique selling point. This game is all about the laughs."

Here's a little about the game, in Farber's own words from an earlier interview with Patch:

Each round, one person is a Schmovie Producer in search of the best title for his or her next blockbuster film. The Schmovie Producer rolls the genre die and flips over two cards to determine the premise. For example, “An action film about a killer sandwich.”

The other players then try to come up with the best or funniest or punniest names for that Schmovie and write them on their wipe-off boards. For example: “Last Action Gyro”, “Sleepy Challah,“ or “Rye Hard.” The Schmovie Producer reads them anonymously and presents a Schquid Trophy for his favorite. The first player to receive four Schquids wins.

The game is being sold via Amazon and is now shipping to select retailers nationwide, from The Brooklyn Strategist, to Playthings Etc. in Pennsylvania, for around $29.95.
