CB2 Will Vote on Teen Rehab Center Tonight

If approved, Redemption Point plans to open at 540 Atlantic Avenue.

The executive committee of Community Board 2 will vote tonight on an application by Redemption Point, a rehab center planning to open at 540 Atlantic Avenue, according to Brownstoner.

The application had been unanimously approved by CB2’s health subcommittee, according to The Local, which reported on Redemption Point a few weeks ago.

The Local reports that founder Alfred Saunders grew up in the Gowanus housing projects, and after a 15-year prison sentence for drug involvement, became a certified substance abuse counselor. Saunders plans to offer drug counseling at the center, as well as sex education and couples’ counseling. He believes 540 Atlantic Avenue will make a good home for his center, because of its proximity to transit options, the courts and the Ingersol and Whitman Houses, where drug use has been prominent.
