Carroll Gardens Designer Wins Zappos Competition

The recipient of the 'Emerging Designer' award beat out entrants from all 50 states and three continents.

A local jewelry designer has an extra sparkle in her eye of late, after winning the Zappos.com Emerging Designer award—beating out entrants from 50 states and three continents.

Carroll Gardens resident and lifelong New Yorker Emily Elizabeth Kollins discovered her passion for accessories shortly after graduating from college. Since then she has committed herself financially and creatively to crafting gold-plated brass charms that are handmade and classic, yet affordable enough for everyday wear in her eponymous line: Emily Elizabeth Jewelry.

"I like that within the collection, the same girl could purchase something for a formal occasion or a date or work... and end up with many different looks," said Elizabeth in her profile video on the site.

Charms range from fortune cookies to clovers to horses, stars and other symbols. There is also an array of hair accessories adorned with miniature gold fans, flowers and more. Prices on Zappos.com for the pieces range between $14 and $195.

Bonus: Everything is made in New york City boroughs!
