Brussels Sprouts and Scallops from Clover Club

Haute bar cuisine

definitely has that speakeasy vibe. It's very dark, there's a thick wooden bar, the backroom is filled with antique furniture and there's even a fireplace.

While a real speakeasy wouldn't bother itself with dressing up the hooch, Clover Club knows its proper place (Carroll Gardens) and time (the present.) And so the cocktails are distinctive and very alcoholic.

But this is about the food, which Clover Club does decently well. Cocktails are certainly the emphasis here, but food is necessary.

We ordered deviled eggs, which were overpriced and not succulent or creamy enough. But we also had the brussels sprouts and scallops, served on a skewer, in a delicious and slightly peppery sauce. The brussels sprouts were crispy, like they'd been baked, which is just how I like them.

Editor's note: I'm not too sure about the food at Clover Club without having first had a sumptious libation (or two). Is anybody?
