An Italian Delight

Caputo's Made Me Merry

I like sandwiches. I like sandwiches a lot. As a rule, I don't buy prepared foods I can easily make at home, (a sandwich, for example), but there's just something about an Italian deli that gives me goosebumps. All of a sudden i'm ordering a sandwich when I just went in for a dinner loaf.

I'm not a connoisseur, but I am very picky. At on Court Street (not but the deli and specialty grocery down the block) it took me a few minutes and a little bit of back and forth with the sandwich maker before I could even decide what to order. Sometimes being slow and methodical pays off though, because my sandwich was perfect.

I started with Genoa Salami, and worked up from there. Provolone. Sweet peppers. Yes and yes. Sundried tomatoes? Oh, yes.

"Roasted turkey?" asked the man behind the counter. I couldn't say no.

All of this on a soft Caputo's roll baked just up Court a few blocks...

The flavors weren't puzzling, they were comforting. What made the sandwich so incredible was the quality of the ingredients. All the meats were moist and the bread was fluffy and yet still crunchy on the outside. Why fuss with an un-rivaled standard?
