Tornado Touches Down in Brooklyn

The National Weather Service has issued a watch in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday

A tornado alert has been issued until 9 p.m. in Brooklyn and Queens after one touched down Saturday morning near Marine Park, according to The National Weather Service.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. the tornado touched down on the Flatbush Avenue area of the Belt Parkway. There have also been reports of cars being flipped over in areas between Long Island and JFK Airport.

the National Weather Service recommends that residents immediately go indoors and/or to the lowest floor of your building for shelter, and to stay away from windows. 

Severe thunderstorms are also expected to continue throughout the day with chances of flash flooding. Residents are encouraged to stay cautious.
