Unveiling the Ballot for Participatory Budgeting

What would you do with $1 million? Participatory budgeting is our opportunity to decide how to invest in our community – and the vote is next week.

Can we count on you? Pledge to vote as part of participatory budgeting.

There are twenty items on the ballot – read about all of them here – covering many of the needs of this community. It includes improvements for district schools, upgrades to our parks, new community spaces, and projects to green our environment and make it easier and safer to get around the district.

But what I have found more exciting than the great participatory budgeting projects are the people behind them. From people who I’ve seen at neighborhood meetings for decades to the fresh faces who saw this as an opportunity to make a difference in our community, our neighbors have walked the streets and done the research necessary to find the best projects for our neighborhoods.

Behind every project is a great story. On our website, you can watch videos about each project with interviews from the hard-working people who developed them.

And then you can decide which one to vote for! This is your opportunity to help decide how we will invest in our neighborhoods. Please commit to vote.

Participatory budgeting began six months ago, with neighborhood assemblies across the district where close to 1,000 people helped brainstorm ideas to improve the community. Then many of them spent the winter developing those ideas into full proposals, and now we are bringing the community together for the deciding vote.

If you haven’t already, now is the time to get involved. Make your voice heard and pledge to vote in participatory budgeting.

Participatory budgeting has helped renew my faith in local democracy - and many of you have told me the same. Let’s make this experiment a success and get out and vote!
