is the subject of this month's "Brooklyn Rewind," column, our series that features photographs from the archives of the Brooklyn Historical Society.
Located on the corner of Clinton and Carroll streets in Carroll Gardens, this church was founded on Christmas Day, 1849, when the neighborhood was still considered a part of Old Brooklyn Heights. It was built during the height of the Industrial Revolution and in the midst of the Anglo-Catholic Revival, which was a period of philosophical, religious and economic change.
The church served as the local meeting place for many Irish immigrants during the 1800’s because it stood right in the heart of the Irish tenements. To this day, the church is still a prominent part of the Carroll Gardens community.
