NU Hotel Celebrates Local Artist Magdalena Marcenaro

A multimedia exhibit will be shown at the Boerum Hill hotel beginning June 6.

A local artist known for her vibrant mixed-media street murals will soon be brightening up nearby interiors too.

The NU Hotel Brooklyn, located at 85 Smith Street, will host a gallery show of Magdalena Marcenaro's work beginning on June 6, inside of its lounge. There, 15 works will be on display through the end of the month.

“We’re delighted to support Magdalena as she uses her talents to give back to the community with street art that is inspirational and positive” said Javier Egipciaco, general manager at NU Hotel Brooklyn, which also highlights Marcenaro's work in one of its suites.

Marcenaro's most recent streetscape, "Think with Your Heart," is located on Pacific Street construction fences a few blocks away. The images there were commissioned by the Pacific Street Block Association in an effort to beautify the area during a period of transition. Limited-edition silkscreen prints of that mural will be available for sale during Marcenaro's engagement at the NU Hotel Brooklyn.

The artist, who is originally from Buenos Aires but has lived in New York for the last decade, is concurrently working on another Cobble Hill mural entitled "Hooded Venus." And yet another commissioned piece can be found at Gowanus Print Lab.

The NU Hotel gallery premiere is open to the public but does require an RSVP. Beginning at 7 p.m. on June 6, the schedule will include a brief tour of the Pacific Street murals, a toast to the artist, followed by an artist Q& A. RSVP at events@independentcollection.com.
