A simple-minded tuba player named Longfellow Deeds is destined for a simple-minded life in small-town America. Which is why when Deeds (Gary Cooper) inherits a fortune and moves to the big city, things are bound to go wrong. Moochers, embezzlers, fundraisers, and more attempt to exploit Longfellow, but he manages to hold his own until a certain femme fatale reporter (Jean Arthur) moves in for her scoop.
