Reelabilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival
ReelAbilities is an annual NY disabilities film festival dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities. Three of this year's screenings will take place at Atrium Ampitheater in Brooklyn:
On Friday, Feb. 4 at 6pm: CROOKED BEAUTY (2010, USA) directed by Ken Paul Rosenthal -- a documentary of artist-activist Jacks Ashley McNamara's transformation from victim of a troubled childhood to psych ward patient to pioneering mental health advocate... Followed by WANDERING EYES (2010, Israel) directed by Ofir Trainin -- a Documentary about Gabriel Belhassan, the next big thing in the rock music world, and a former Orthodox Jew recently diagnosed as manic depressive.
On Monday, Feb. 7 at 6pm: ANITA (2009, Argentina) directed by Marcos Carnevale, about a young woman with Down syndrome gets separated from her mother after a bomb explodes at their Community Center in Buenos Aires.
