In 1957 The New York Times portrayed the “subterranean beauties” featured in the 15-year-old Miss Subways contest as “confiding their ambitions, hobbies, and romantic dreams in cozy prose to the world.” City Lore’s Steve Zeitlin will explorethe story of Miss Subways and its place in urban folklore with a former contestant and artist Fiona Gardner, photographer for Meet Miss Subways, an artistic, voyeuristic, and historically important look at the famous subway advertising program, authored by Amy Zimmer.
