5 Things: Writer’s Workshop at The Old Stone House, Movie Night at Atlantic Co.

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Writer’s workshop. Come to The Old Stone House for Sense Writing: Life Stories and Fiction. Taught by Madelyn Kent (playwriting, screenwriting, and memoir writing at NYU/Tisch) and Peggy Stafford (a two-time MacDowell fellow), the workshop helps writers of all levels to use their own life stories to explore the connection between senses, emotions, and thoughts. Through accessible tools, such as visualizations, simple physical exercises, and writing prompts, members will develop their voice as a writer. Workshop costs $340.

2. Old-fashioned. Go to Brooklyn Farmacy (513 Henry St) to listen to Allen Friend play slow jamming, old-time music. Brooklyn Farmacy serves old-fashioned soda fountain drinks, including egg creams, sundaes, and scoops with artisanal sodas in a restored 1920s pharmacy. The shop also features baked goods, soup and other savories, and a grocery section with a 'Made in Brooklyn' focus.

Filmed over five years in twenty-five countries on five continents, Samsara “transports the audience to the varied worlds of sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes, and natural wonders,” according to IMDB.
