Upcoming events in the neighborhood that will pique your interest.
As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, it is increasingly tempting to curl up on a couch and stay indoors. But plenty is happening out in the neighborhood, and you don’t have to travel far to take part. Here are some upcoming events this week in the area:
1. Monday, December 12, music legend Lou Reed will be making an appearance at at 163 Court Street to read from his new book, The Raven, an illustrated book using lyrics inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s poetry.
Time: 7 p.m.

2. Tuesday, December 13, will be presenting Amy X Neuburg and Cory Smythe at 509 Atlantic Avenue. The pair is teaming up for a night of piano, voice, live electronics, and improvisational duets.
Time: 8 p.m.
Cost: $15 General Admission, $10 Students/Seniors

3. Wednesday, December 14, there will be a general board meeting for Community Board Six at Brooklyn Borough Hall at 209 Joralemon Street. Items on the agenda for this meeting include liquor license applications and a presentation by the Department of Transportation’s Red Hook Transit Access and Mobility Improvements. 4. Thursday, December 15, join others hurrying to finish their homemade holiday gifts and other projects at at 87 3rd Avenue on the 4th floor. Bring a project you are working on, whether it's web design or knitting, and get going!

5. Come see A Christmas Carol, Oy Hanukkah, Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan, playing Thursday to Sunday through the end of December at the Clockworks Puppet Theater at 196 Columbia Street. This puppet show takes on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, bringing together holiday traditions from several religions.
Time: Thu to Fri, 7pm; Sat to Sun, 4pm and 7pm
