From Shantel Davis to Kiki Gray: Why is NYPD Murder on the Rise?

Join this panel organized by the Brooklyn International Socialist Organization and endorsed by the Shantel Davis Organizing Committee for Justice and Beyond (www.justice4shantel.com). Speakers will be followed by open discussion of why police violence exists and what kind of movement it would take to fundamentally challenge it. 

2. Book Launch: Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York, Summer 1953 by Elizabeth Winder

Elizabeth Winder will discuss her portrait of Sylvia Plath through the lens of the year she spent in New York. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

3. Show & Tell it Brooklyn, A twist on storytelling

Bring your old and new photos, love letters, cards, documents, birth, death and marriage certificates, newspaper clippings, home movies, instruments, dolls, quilts, uniforms etc from family archives and share them! 

4. Ben Holmes Quartet at Barbès

Trumpeter Ben Holmes brings his quartet back for his monthly residency at Barbès. Featuring Curtis Hasselbring (trombone), Vinnie Sperrazza (drums) and special guest Marcus Rojas (tuba), the group will perform music from Holmes' critically-acclaimed Skirl Records release 'Anvil of the Lord' as well as repertoire from the Trio Blastphemy songbook. All ages welcome.

5. Move your car. Alternate side parking rules are in effect. The DOT will suspend parking rules on Wed., May 15 and Thursday, May 16 for the Jewish holiday Shavuot.
