5 Things: Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday

Plus Street Tree Care 101, a used soccer equipment drive for Kenyan kids and free kids dance classes.

1. Get to the Museum. It's that time of the month! For April, Target First Saturday has the theme of Workt by Hand: Hidden Labor and Historical Quilts. Even if that doesn't grab you, you can see music and dance performances, do a hands-on art project, listen to a book reading, go on a curator tour or just look at the museum's art yourself, all for free. Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, 5-10 p.m.

2. Love a tree. Do your part by helping out your local street trees. At Street Tree Care 101: How to Help Your Street Tree Thrive you'll learn the basics of urban tree care with creative ways of watering, improving the soil and beautifying street tree beds. The class will also cover strategies such as how to get new trees for your block, widen existing tree beds, and even how to become a Licensed Citizen Pruner. Brooklyn Brainery, 190 Underhill Ave. at St. Johns Place, 11-12:30 a.m. Free.
