5 Things: Brooklyn Bridge Art Exhibit at Urban Folk Art Gallery

Plus, four more events to help kickoff the long Memorial Day weekend.

This article was written by Caitlin Nolan.

1. Get folksy.
The fourth annual Brooklyn Bridge Anniversary Exhibition is being held at the Urban Folk Art Gallery at 101 Smith St. Each work has incorporated DOT Brooklyn Bridge Paint in their work. The show will be up for 4 weeks, so if you can't make opening night, there's still plenty of time to stop in. Free.

2. Let loose. A new open performance/screening series where anyone can present anything under 10 minutes is underway at the LaunchPad. Almost anything is accepted, including music, readings, video, demonstrations, film, comedy, dance, animation and presentations. Performance slots are limited so please e-mail Zane@brooklynlaunchpad.org to sign-up in advance. If performing isn't your thing, head over for some free home-brewed beer provided by Honest Pete. 721 Franklin Ave., 8 p.m., $5 suggested donation

3. Take in some dance. DanceAfrica, the nation’s largest festival dedicated to African Dance, presents performance, art, film and community events at BAM. 7:30-9:30 p.m., 30 Lafayette Ave., $20.

4. Stop by the fair. The Kings County Fair's last day for the season will be Monday, May 27, so be sure to stop by before the festivities are through. The Aviator Sports and Events Center hosts this family event featuring rides, games and food. Hangar 5 at Floyd Bennett Field. $5.

5. Keep an eye on your car. Alternate side parking is in full effect. The next suspension will be on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
