Video Captures 'Last' Italian Social Club in Carroll Gardens

Voices of NY interviews members of the Society of the Citizens of Pozzallo on Henry Street.

A touching video captured on Voices of New York chats with members of the Society of the Citizens of Pozzallo, the self-described "last Italian club in Carroll Gardens" after years of gentrification and aging residents have dwindled membership to an all-time low of 200.

In the film, Joe Igneri presides over the everyday card games, serving espressos and Pellegrino sodas to his endearing group of elders.

While the club may be struggling to hold on to its heritage as immigrants from the fishing village of nearly 30,000 in Sicily, other newer establishments such as Maybelle's and Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain say they would hate for the club to ever close and hope the younger generations can hold on to the traditional meeting place. The latter even features a breakfast sandwich, "Pozzallo's Way" on its menu, paying tribute to the nearby club.
