'Tis the Season for Christmas Tree Lightings

All over the neighborhood, lights are being lit and Santa Claus is stopping by.

In the past couple of days, two Christmas trees and a 29-foot menorah have been lit in Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill and at Borough Hall. 'Tis the season to celebrate the holidays, spend time with friends and family and sing carols.

At Borough Hall, local rabbis and elected officials 

On Thursday night, residents of the Boerum Hill community attended a  at the Belarusan Church on Atlantic and Bond Streets. The event featured Brooklyn Ballet, singers from PS 238 and 61 and the musical group Rolie Polie Guacamole and was sponsored by The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation.

Diane Lewis attends the party every year.

"I love the children's choirs, the singing," she said. "The interactive nature of the holidays is so great."

The  took place last night and was hosted by the Court Street Merchants Association, the Friends of Carroll Park and the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation. Karen K from Karen K and the Jitterbugs performed and all in attendance sang carols.

"Whatever we say, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, a good year for all," boomed Borough President Marty Markowitz. "Health and happiness and peace, most importantly."

Maya Malhotra Degnemark, 7, attends PS 29 and says she loves Christmastime because you get presents.

"And it's nice to spend time with your family," she added.

The power blew out toward the end of the event, but the voices still rang.
