Events both civic and entertaining are happening this week in the neighborhood. Get involved or get cultured!

Monday:

The Brooklyn Lyceum, formerly Public Bath #7, hosts a weekly open mic night on Mondays. The building is reason enough to visit the café and community event space, but hey, open mic nights can be pretty fun. It's free, too.

Tuesday:

Every month, top cops host a community meeting at the precinct station on Union Street. Show up and listen, or voice off about the , or whatever else is on your mind.



Rosenblum, from The New York Times, presents work from the new edition of More New York Stories: The Best of the City Section of the New York Times. Copies of the new book will be available for purchase and the event is free.

Wednesday:



The community board is your entry into local, grassroots politics. The board addresses everything ranging from transportation and environmental issues, to landmarks and parks. Come and listen, or speak out.

Friday:



Watch a film and support a good cause! Proceeds benefit The Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies College Fund, which enables students whose families cannot pay for transportation and related expenses to visit and apply to colleges outside the city limits. The film, Alamar (To The Sea) is suitable for children and Time Out New York says the film is "Destined to be appreciated by thoughtful kids."
