Why Go: With hurricane warnings keeping tots off the playgrounds, The Barking Cat's Little Hands Arts & Crafts Classes for Toddlers allows kids to create imaginative pieces of artwork in the cozy indoors. The classes are run as a series workshop, but walk-ins are welcome.

Where/When: The Brooklyn Public Library in Carroll Gardens, 396 Clinton St., Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Whether or not the storms are raging outside, an afternoon spent in the Carroll Gardens branch of the Brooklyn Public Library is always worth it. Infants to 18-month-olds are welcome for an afternoon of stories, songs and library play.

Arts, Crafts and Words at the

Where/When: The Brooklyn Public Library in Carroll Gardens, 396 Clinton St., Friday at 3:30 .pm. 

Why Go: The library hosts these weekly workshops for kids of all ages, making this an excellent poor-weather alternative. Stop by for an afternoon of construction paper, glitter and glue sticks - fun for the whole family.

at Irondale

Where/When: Irondale, 85 S Oxford St., Fort Greene, Friday at 5 p.m.

Why Go: This may not be toddler-friendly, but it's a great indoor option to take the older kids to enjoy some authentic Brooklyn music culture. Spoken word and original jazz will make for a lively Friday night, if the weather permits.

at The Commons

Where/When: The Commons, 388 Atlantic Ave., Saturday August  at 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 5p.m.

Why Go: What better weekend than this to explore an indoor market stocked with organic produce and local edibles? FoodShed's weekend market is usually open on Sundays only, but due to the hurricane threats doors will be open all day on Saturday, with the possibility of closing early on Sunday. Bring the kids for a fun afternoon of exploring and tasting.
