Gowanus Gets a New Cocktail Lounge
Not sure how we missed this, but last week T Magazine reported on a new bar opening on the fringes of Carroll Gardens. Lavender Lake is "a neighborhood joint housed in an old horse stable on Carroll Street, a few yards west of the quaint wooden drawbridge that stretches over the Gowanus Canal," according to the article. With a menu of eclectic bar food, an expansive backyard and "gregarious" owners who all come from design backgrounds, it sounds like a perfect fit for the neighborhood's .

Blue Marble Opens 100% Certified Organic Ice Cream Plant
If you missed the mention in our coverage of last weekend's , neighborhood scoopstars Blue Marble have opened a 100% certified organic ice cream plant in nearby Sunset Park. Owners say they will also soon be expanding the number of stores they are sold in (for those nights when you're craving a pint and the shop is closed). Mermaid's Garden CSF Available at Local Pickup Locations
What is a CSF, you ask? Think CSA (community supported agriculture) but with fish. Mermaid's Garden shares run in four-week cycles, with fish from Long Island and New England available such as Black Bass, Bluefish, Haddock, Hake, Monkfish, Pollock, Porgy, Skate, Striped Bass, Summer Flounder, Swordfish, Tilefish, Tuna (Yellowfin and Bigeye), Wreckfish and more.
