Poll: Who Flips The Best Flapjacks in Carroll Gardens?

It is Pancake Day, after all.

If you've noticed a curious proliferation of pancake recipes flying across your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram newsfeeds today, here's a tip why: It's Shrove Tuesday.

Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day) is known for the eating of pancakes before the start of Lent. Why pancakes? They are made out of the main foods available—sugar, fat, flour and eggs—whose consumption was historically  restricted during the ritual fasting.

Whether you observe Lent, Mardi Gras or neither, chances are you can appreciate a good pancake. If you're interested in making breakfast for dinner tonight, local recipe test-site Food52 served up seven variations this morning that should appeal to your family's palates.
