Photo: Historic Borough Hall Gobbled Up By Sun

Brooklyn's Borough Hall, pictured on the sunny afternoon of Aug. 7, is "an illustrious symbol of Brooklyn's glory as its own city, which it was until 1898 and deserves to be once again," according to VisitBrooklyn.org.

Built of Tuckahoe marble and designed in the Greek Revival architectural style, Borough Hall was completed in 1848 with the intent of serving as Brooklyn's City Hall. When Brooklyn became part of New York City in 1898, the building became what it is today – simply Borough Hall.

The hall's interior was restore in the 1980s and includes a Victorian study, a gold-leaf domed ceiling and brass and crystal chandeliers.
