Ongoing Stories to Follow in 2014

What developing stories do you need to keep an eye on in 2014.

2013 may be winding down, but that doesn't mean all the issues from the year are resolved. There are many ongoing stories around Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Red Hook that you should keep an eye on as we head into 2014. Here's a rundown:

The Battle to Save LICH
LICH survived through a year full of attempts by SUNY to divert hospitals and stop patient intake to being shutdown of the hospital, massive protests involving the arrests of many local pols and rumors going every which way. At the end of 2013, LICH remains open. But how long will that be the case? The fight continues into the new year, with SUNY waiting for new mayor Bill de Blasio (a huge proponent of the hospital) to take office.

Restoring Red Hook
It's now been over a year since Hurricane Sandy devastated Red Hook. Almost the entire are was completely flooded as many were left with a home or a business in ruin. The entirety of 2013 was spent rebuilding, and most of the businesses have reopened. There is still more work to be done in the new year, however, as Red Hook battles to get back on its feet.

Bill de Blasio: Year One
de Blasio was overwhelmingly elected as the new NYC Mayor in November. Now many hope he will stick to his campaign promises; one of his biggest including the promise to keep LICH open. His first year in office should answer a lot of questions.
